With a commercial driver’s license (CDL), you can operate large and heavy vehicles, such as tractor-trailer trucks, dump trucks, or passenger buses. To get this specialized license, you have to complete courses at a professional truck driver institution.
During your time as a student at a CDL driving school, you will participate in training in a classroom and on the road. First, you’ll receive instruction in a classroom. Here you will learn such things as the rules of the road, what is required from you as a driver, and each state’s requirements. Once you complete this portion of the program, you will receive a permit to operate large vehicles during your hands-on truck driving training.
After passing both in-classroom and on-the-road training through one of the licensed, certified, or accredited truck driving schools, you can receive your commercial driver’s license. This will show companies that you are capable of handling and maneuvering heavy, large trucks.
